On the Road Again!

Four years ago, I quit the corporate life and went traveling throughout South East Asia with a newly founded consulting company that I created in the hopes that it would fund my travels while I was away. My goal was to be out there for a year and then come back to my old job, rejoin the corporate world but with a couple new experiences to tell the grandchildren.

The original travel crew

Never did I think that the consulting company that I created to keep me afloat would transform into something so lucrative that I wouldn’t need to return to my old job but, here I am, 4 years later, still driving and growing it.

Leaving my corporate job and starting a consuming company was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made and gave me the opportunity to work from anywhere!

As time went on though, a little problem surfaced: my company is, in itself, a corporation, and it did what corporations do – convince you to grow them. Before long, the life I had planned on escaping when I left my old job once again became my every day. It was my baby and I wanted to grow it into something that was bigger than just me. That meant taking on more work than I could comfortably handle and going back to the long hours I had previously escaped.

Was the growth worth it? Don’t get me wrong, I love the hustle, but what is my goal in the end?

So here we are, mid 2020, mid pandemic, mid breakup blues of the only relationship that I really cared about or that left me hurting once it ended, it’s time to go back to my roots that started it all and try to find what I first set out to discover.

And although, given the pandemic, we certainly can’t go far, here in Vancouver, we happen to be in one of the most beautiful provinces not only in the country but the world. I can’t tell you how many times in my original travels, I met people that marveled at the fact that I was from here, that told me amazing stories of their own travels in my own backyard, and that saw some amazing sceneries when they were lucky enough to visit our province, the one aptly known as “Beautiful British Columbia”.

My plan also captivated the imagination of my roommate who, since I was lucky enough to meet on craigslist when he first moved to Vancouver two years ago, has become an ally as much as a friend, and he agreed to tag along!

Setting off

So, armed with a motorcycle and his Jeep, a strong sense of adventure, and literally no plan whatsoever, we’re taking off for two weeks. I still plan on working remotely but no reason to do it from my condo if we can be looking at majestic waterfall or a towering mountain.
